Guest Profile Week #13:  Danielle & her beautiful family

I’m a wife, passionate mompreneur of two boys, yogi, fitness enthusiast, inspirational speaker and wellness advocate.

Where did you move from?

My husband and I moved to Harrison from Port Chester in 2007 before we had our kids. We were looking for a bigger home with a nice yard for our future children to play in and a great school system, while still remaining close to my parents who live in Larchmont.

What are a couple of the deciding factors for moving to the suburbs?

Keith and I both grew up in the suburbs. I grew up in Larchmont and he in Bedford Hills. We both loved growing up in family-oriented neighborhoods where you could walk to school, local shops and businesses and friends’ houses. I particularly loved the experience of growing up near New York City and knew I would want my own children to have that experience as well.

Are you a Northern, Southern, Rivertowns, Sound Shore or Central Westchester resident & why?

We live in the Sound Shore area and love it for the proximity to the Long Island Sound and the city. It is convenient for drives north where upper Westchester hosts more country-like settings that support additional family oriented activities.

What do you like most about your home’s community?

Harrison is a safe community that is a fit for everyone.  Regardless of interests, career path, ethnicity or age, all are welcome in Harrison. This is evidenced to us within our children’s school.  Our children attend Parsons Memorial Elementary School and we are happy with their experiences thus far.  The teachers are nurturing and supportive and our principal is very hands-on and approachable. Our boys are involved in sports through the recreation department and, as a result, we have been afforded other opportunities to meet and interact with families in our community while keeping our boys active. I Heart Harrison’s launch event to promote community and beauty in Harrison, NY held at Wilding Park. Harrison residents are proud of this community, especially those who have grown up here and have chosen to remain and raise their own family.  The affection and loyalty for their community is highlighted each October when, on Columbus Day weekend, we celebrate It’s Great to Live in Harrison with a parade and fair sponsored by the Town of Harrison in Riis Park.  There is entertainment, rides and activities for all ages. The food is great!  We never miss it!

Local community facebook page to keep everyone in the know about community activities an happenings.

What do you appreciate most about your suburban home?

We love how easily we can walk to things. We find it convenient to walk downtown, to school, church, the library, the recreation department and the train station. We almost don’t need a car…almost.

Fill in the Blanks.  My Favorite….

Restaurant =  Harrison has so many great restaurants I couldn’t possible pick just one! My boys and I frequent Halstead Avenue Taqueria more times than I can count! As a family, we love going to Porta Napoli for delicious wood-fire pizza.  Date night favorites are Trattoria Vivolo and 273 Kitchen.

273 Kitchen bar and dining room

Park / Outdoor Activity Most neighborhoods in Harrison have playgrounds. We happen to be fortunate enough to live in walking distance to ours. We enjoy going on hikes to nearby Rye Marshlands or simply walking our dog around our neighborhood and stopping to see the ducks and turtles at Beaver Swamp Brook.

Work Out / Exercise = Hands down – TotalFusion Studios. For a small, boutique studio they offer a wide-range of classes throughout the week, with wonderfully supportive instructors and staff.

I also organize our Total Fusion weekly meal prep for healthy eating and living! Children’s Store = The Toy Box and Millers in neighboring Mamaroneck are both great children’s stores.

Children’s Activity =  We take advantage of our wonderful Rec Department as well as our town Library. Both offer many activities for kids of all ages; we can always find something that our two boys will enjoy!

We love our library’s annual Play2Learn Festival which is a free. It’s an outdoor community event each September that offers hands on activities for kids that support STEM initiatives.

As a wellness advocate, I offer learning opportunities for our young residents through other workshops in our library sponsored by my business, Juice Plus

and Tower Garden which further supports STEM and healthy living initiatives.

Any advice for people considering a move from NYC or anywhere in the world to Westchester Living?

Living in Westchester offers you and your family the best of it all. You get excellent schools, a small town feel of suburban living, yet are still close enough to NYC to take the train or car and spend an afternoon or evening. It’s truly the best of both worlds! Spend time in the towns you’re interested in and ask the residents what they like best about their town and neighborhood. Most people are more than happy to share what they enjoy about their community.
