Guest Profile Week #8: Annemarie & her beautiful family!

I’m an interior designer, wife and mom of two boys.  We’re an active family that lives in Scarsdale, NY.

Where did you move from?

We have lived in Westchester our entire lives.  I grew up in Northern Westchester and my husband grew up in Southern Westchester.

What were a couple of the deciding factors for moving to the suburbs?

There were a couple of deciding factors when thinking about where we wanted to settle down and raise our family. The biggest deciding factor was school district. We also wanted to live in a town within close proximity to the city. We can easily hop on a train, grab an uber or drive and be in Manahttan in no time at all.

Are you a Northern, Southern, Rivertowns, Sound Shore or Central Westchester resident & why?

We live in Southern Westchester and settled where we are mainly for the school district.  We also had great friends already settled in the area who loved their neighborhood. We have family very close by in Bronxville, Mamaroneck and White Plains

What do you like most about your home’s community?

There are many things that I like about my community. The families and friends we have met have been nothing short of welcoming and warm. One of my very first memories is on my oldest son’s first day of school in 1st grade. I walked my son to school with my younger son in tow. We knew a few families prior to moving to the area but the entire experience was all so new. Within 10 minutes, I had met so many friendly moms and received multiple morning coffee invites. All it took was one mom saying I was new and introducing me to another mom and another mom etc..Before I got home, I had emails on everything from telling me how to sign up my children for sports in the area to recommendations on favorite places to go and things to do. It was such a warm welcoming and I knew we made the right decision.  Community is so important and from our first experiences we were welcomed into the fold.

What do you appreciate most about your suburban home?

As an interior designer, I appreciate the ability to decorate and create a warm, inviting space for my family.  My home combines classic and traditional elements with a modern flair.  My boys love having their own space and a backyard to run around in.  Check out some of my favorite home designs Houzz Brite Home Concepts Brite Home Concepts.

Fill in the Blanks.  My Favorite….

Restaurant = We do not have a favorite restaurant. There are so many great options in Westchester it is so hard to choose only one!  We recently had an amazing meal at Purdy’s Farmer and the Fish in North Salem.  It is Farm to Table and definitely a place we will be going to again!

Park / Outdoor Activity = The bikes trails are our go to for a family fun day.  We also enjoy Bicycle Sundays on the Bronx River Parkway!

Work Out / Exercise =  I loveove Hot yoga at Yoga Spark in Mamaroneck, Club Pilates & Barry’s Bootcamp in Scarsdale.  Just like restaurants, there are so many amazing local exercise options!

Children’s Store = Lester’s in the Rye Ridge is my favorite children’s store.  There’s a large Lester’s with a range of clothing and gifts for boys and girls and a separate Lester’s for boys only.

Shopping = Nails in Scarsdale is my favorite nail salon.  There are also so many amazing stores in the Vernon Hills Shopping Center in Eastchester.

Children’s Activity = My kids are older now, so we are heavily into sports. When they were younger there were always tons of things to do.   We spent lots of time playing outside at local parks  & also participated in so manay organized class activities at children’s gyms & art classes. Anything you can think of, you can find in Westchester.

Any advice for people considering a move from NYC or anywhere in the world to Westchester Living?

My only advice would be that whichever town you decide to settle in, you can’t go wrong! I have met numerous people from neighboring towns through my kids playing sports and everyone has been so friendly. For our family, making our house a home has been the key to happiness and success in adjusting to life in Scarsdale.  We constantly have friends and families running through our home and impromptu get-togethers. Our best nights are the ones spent in our home with our friends! or singing Karaoke! 🙂
