Guest Profile Week #14:  Alison & her beautiful family

Where did you move from?

Manhattan

What are a couple of the deciding factors for moving to the suburbs?

We had just had our first child.  We were ready for more space & a community with a great school system.  We also wanted to stay as close the city as possible.  I work for Judicial Title which has offices in Manhattan and Rye Brook and I like being centrally located for work as well.

Are you a Northern, Southern, Sound Shore or Rivertowns Westchester resident & why?

We live in the Sound Shore area and love it for the proximity to the Long Island Sound and the city.

What do you like most about your home’s community?

I love the sense of community that Pelham offers.  There are lots of events and activities for families.  Some of my favorites are The Color Run, The Pumpkin Run & Festival and the Public Library’s Novel Night.   We have been so happy with the school system also.  Our children are 14 and 11 now and are having a wonderful experience.  I also love that Pelham embraces the arts.  We love the Pelham Art Center and the Pelham Picture House!

What do you appreciate most about your suburban home?

We have a Tudor that was built in the 1920’s and we love the original wood work in the house.  We also love our backyard!

Fill in the Blanks.  My Favorite….

Restaurant =  Sergio’s for delicious Italian food. Sakura for Bento Boxes.  Cantina Lobos for yummy Mexican.

Jordan Hall has a great bar.

Park / Outdoor Activity = Shore Park is right by the water and has beautiful views of the Long Island Sound.

Great kids park there and a dog park too.  There is also a great park for kids near 6th Street that has tennis courts too.

Work Out / Exercise =  I like to work out outside and like to run and walk in the neighborhood especially on the Esplanade which is a beautiful, wide street that is great for running.

Children’s Store = Sue’s Corner.  She has lots of goodies in there and also hand paints names and designs on little stools, rocking chairs, etc.  which make great personalized gifts.

Children’s Activity =  There is so much for children to get involved in in Pelham.  The Pelham Recreation Department offers all sorts of activities and sports.  There are chess clubs, music clubs, Pelham Children’s Theater, to name a few.

The Pelham Art Center and the Pelham Picture House offer wonderful programs for children too.

Any advice for people considering a move from NYC or anywhere in the world to Westchester Living?

Take the time to drive around the community.  Visit the town, poke around, enjoy one of the restaurants.  Westchester has so many great towns to choose from!
