First hand thoughts, comments and experiences from real people and neighbors, living, working and raising families all across Suburban Westchester County NY.  We look forward to sharing many more stories with you over the coming weeks, months and years.

Guest Profile Week #6:  Nancy & her family

Where did you move from?

We moved from Brooklyn almost 15 years ago

What were a couple of the deciding factors for moving to the suburbs?

We wanted great public schools, close to family and an easy commute to NYC for my husbands work.

Are you a Northern, Southern, Rivertowns, Sound Shore or Central Westchester resident & why?

I was born and raised in Briarcliff Manor.  Growing up I spent my summers on the Long Island Sound.  We knew we definitely wanted a Sound Shore town or River town.

What do you like most about your home’s community?

We love our community and neighborhood.   There are tons of kids everywhere with a great park right down street.   Its just low key and so easy going.  We love that we are so close to the water, train and town which is so convenient.  We try to take advantage of everything that the area has to offer.

What do you appreciate most about your suburban home?

We have a home that was originally built in 1904.  When we remodeled 3 years ago we kept as many of the original features as we could instead of tearing the house down.  I love the character, original floors that squeak and high ceilings.

Fill in the Blanks.  My Favorite….

Restaurant = Saltaire Oyster Bar in Port Chester NY

Park / Outdoor Activity = SUP (paddle boarding :)) Favorite park is Harbor Island Park.  They have a great playground for the kids, tons of green space plus it is right on the water and only a few steps away from Mamaroneck Avenue where you can eat and shop.  I also happen to be the owner of SUP Westchester.  I found my love for the water and fitness at a young age growing up in Westchester County.  I spent the majority of my early years swimming competitively and later completed numerous Olympic distance triathlons. With a passion for the water and a drive to stay fit, I decided to take up paddle boarding 6 years ago. I’m a World Paddle Association Certified Instructor and American Red Cross certified in First Aid/CPR/AED and Waterfront Lifeguarding.  I look forward to seeing all of you on the water soon!  www.supwestchester.com Mamaroneck NY

Workout / Gym = I love Flywheel Sports in Scarsdale NY.

Local Retailers = Stephanie’s Kloset in Larchmont NY

Children’s Activity = My kids love going to Playland.  They are at the age where they go on their own which is great and Rye NY is only a few minutes away.

Any advice for people considering a move from NYC or anywhere in the world to Westchester Living?

My advice would be to go for it!  Living here you get the space, yard, schools and a friendly community while just 30 minutes away from the action.
