Guest Profile Week #4:  Dana & her Family

Where did you move from?

We moved from Hoboken, New Jersey to Westchester County twelve years ago.  My husband and I are both from New Jersey and met at law school at Rutgers Law School – Newark.

What were a couple of the deciding factors for moving to the suburbs?

My husband took a job in Purchase, New York and I was working in Manhattan.  We grew up in and love the suburbs and had our son, who was two at the time, so we decided that Westchester was the perfect place for us.  The commute to Manhattan was very easy, the towns are so lovely here and Westchester has some of the country’s top-notch schools.  Now, my husband reverse commutes to Manhattan and I work in Westchester.

Are you a Northern, Southern, Rivertowns, Sound Shore or Central Westchester resident & why?

Southern Westchester – We love all of Westchester but live in Southern Westchester.  The commute to Manhattan cannot be beat.  We also love the convenience here of so many great shopping options, supermarkets and restaurants.

What do you like most about your home’s community?

Rye Brook is a very small town with a small town feel.  There is a tremendous sense of community here.  Everyone really helps each other and it is extremely organized.  We live right down the block from a terrific park with many ball fields and a brand new playground.  My kids have instant get-togethers with their friends at the park.

What do you appreciate most about your suburban home?

I appreciate my backyard, where we have room for a trampoline, ping-pong table and basketball hoop to keep the kids active outside.  We have a great garden (my husband has a green thumb) in which we plant vegetables sold by my sons’ school’s PTA.

Fill in the Blanks.  My Favorite….

Restaurant = Bar Taco and Tarry Lodge, both in Port Chester, right next to Rye Brook, and Restaurant North in Armonk.

Park = Pine Ridge Park – Located right across from my house.

Workout / Gym = Lifetime Fitness – I have been a member since it opened.  It is close by and has classes that work out every body part!

Children’s Store = Lester’s in Rye Brook and Kohls in Port Chester.

Children’s Activity = going to see Westchester Knicks games at The County Center.
